![]() Quail Valley Crime Watch Crime Watch is an organization of private citizens who assist the Missouri City Police Department by patrolling the Quail Valley neighborhood in their personal cars. They patrol in teams of two for two hours once every three weeks. Radios are provided so that the teams are in instant contact with the Police Dispatcher. The purpose of the patrols is to observe and report any suspicious activity. They are not expected to confront situations that they may encounter. The organization was formed by a group of residents in late 1991 who became concerned over a rash of "kick burglaries" and vandalism to private property and the Quail Valley Golf Course. Founding members of this group were: Bob Hauck, Tom Herrick, B.J. Phillips, Joe Rimes, Irv Smith, Gene Spaulding and Jim Stephenson with guidance by the Missouri City Police. They solicited funds, purchased radios, recruited members and formed the patrols. When Quail Valley Proud was organized Crime Watch became one of the Standing Committees and has enjoyed the moral and financial support offered by the association. The value of Crime Watch has been acknowledged many times by Police Chief Ron Echols and Officer Dan Flagg as a deterrent to crime both as extra eyes for the Department and as a visible presence on the streets of Quail Valley. Tom Altenbern chairs the Crime Watch Committee. He recruits new members, arranges training by the Missouri City Police and coordinates the scheduling of Patrols. There is always need for new members.
