Summer Watering Tips from Legacy Landscaping Even with the heavy rains of May behind us, our simmering summer Texas heat is at least a three-month reality. While we can tote bottled water to hydrate our bodies or cool off in our community or backyard pools, we also know that our foliage, flowers and grass will need consistent watering. It’s best to water less often and deep, and if at all possible early in the day. Watering at night runs the risk of harboring harmful fungus growth. A general rule of thumb is to water an area long enough that if you crept out in your bare feet, you could feel the water squish refreshingly between your toes!!! When you water deep it seeps down into the earth to the roots. If you water short and shallow, then the roots have to come up from their place within the earth to reach the water, which does not allow for optimum growth patterns. Conversely, to fight off the mosquito population that likes to play after the summer sun goes down, remember not to leave the mosquito magnet of standing water in flower pots and the like. |
