A Wail of a Game!

It was for the 1973 or ‘74 Astros’ season opener in the Dome that Pat Baker organized a bus trip to the game for some of us early residents. Remember Pat? She was the original Quail Valley Sales Rep and promoter of resident’s activities for the Country Club. She was also a terrific golfer.

Anyway, a group of us gathered in front of the club and awaited the promised bus. We waited and waited and waited. Pat called the bus company and was assured that the bus was on the way. We waited and waited some more. Now this was in the days before cell phones, so communication had to go through the bus company dispatcher.

Finally it was determined that the bus was lost. Pat quickly made another call ...to the Missouri City Police. In no time the bus was located, led to Quail Valley Country Club and we had a police escort! With the siren wailing the police escorted the bus past all the traffic on South Main all the way to Holmes Road where their jurisdiction ended. We made it to the game on time but no doubt raised questions in many motorist minds along Highway 90!
